A game of snakes and ladders

Three weeks out from rehearsals. Brisbane Powerhouse have been brilliant in accommodating our rehearsal schedule needs.

The first week now needs to start on the Sunday, instead of the Monday. We have three days with the full cast in week 1 and two with full cast in week 2. In week 3 we then lose our protagonist for 3 days as he’s bumping-in and opening a different show.

Win on the crewing front: we have an ASM – and possibly lighting operator. A Griffith student, Shaun Kohlman. Need Tolli to meet and okay him. This is a big gig for our stage management team – by far the biggest thing they’ll have undertaken. They’re our interns, so to speak. Both very quick studies but it’s a huge learning curve for all involved. Us, as well. We’ve not taken on ‘teaching’ roles, mentoring, before and we need to make sure we have feedback systems in place that allow us to observe, facilitate their growth, and ensure the quality of their experience and our show. (Interestingly, Facebook is providing an informal feedback mechanism.)

Our full-time working cast member has changed jobs in order to try and free up more time for rehearsals. Great idea – but it has changed her days off, and consequently, the rehearsal schedule – ARRRGGH!! I have to talk to Powerhouse again.
